Be sure to get enough sleep at night. If you have a chronic case of puffy eyes, it could be that you’re simply not getting enough sleep, or the quality of the sleep you’re getting is inadequate. Swelling under the eyes is a very frequent symptom of sleep deprivation.
Drink more water! Most people who are inclined to puffy eyes are commonly dehydrated. If you have puffy eyes, you probably need to drink more water. Aim for a gallon a day or at the very least, 3 quarts. Drink only water or herbal tea. Sweet, flavored or fizzy drinks don’t count. And if you drink coffee or alcohol regularly, you need an additional glass of water for each glass of wine or cup of coffee.
Look at how you sleep. It’s not unique to have puffy when you first get up in the morning. One reason for this could be that when you are laying down for several hours in a level position and then get up, the fluid that is residing under your eyes is suddenly being pulled down by gravitation. This swelling should subside soon. In order to prevent morning puffy eyes, is to lift your head while you sleep so that the fluid under your eyes is not as drastically forced down as you get up.
Minimize your salt consumption. A high ingestion of salt may be causing your body to retain fluid. Try using less salt and see if that represses your swollen eyes.
You might need a diuretic, such as the juice of cranberry or cabbage. These vegetables are diuretics, which will help your body evacuate some surplus fluid. Other natural diuretics include the herbs uva ursi and golden rod.
Be sure to get more exercise. Exercise will improve circulation, which will assist your body to move fluid through your body, instead of letting it gather.
