Inside the Bare Metal Cloud of Web Host NewServers
There are varied definitions on what exactly constitutes cloud computing on managed hosting servers and it’s difficult to come up with a consensus among the companies that claim to provide related services. one of the aspects of cloud computing, however, that appears to have practically reached consensus recognition among media and marketing professionals as a key ingredient is virtualization and the use of related technologies.
Hosting provider NewServers is now working to demonstrate the power of a cloud product that will deliver dedicated servers rather than shared resources. The company’s new product, Bare Metal Cloud, goes against the widely held principles related to cloud computing.
The concept of the server cloud is currently married to virtualization, says CEO JP Gagne of NewServers. He adds that his company offers a new server cloud sans virtualization but it works in the same way as the virtual servers. NewServers is going to sell dedicated servers that come with automated provisioning, API and imaging system and hourly billing. This will provide clients with the usual advantages of the server cloud, without virtualizing.
According to Gagne, the main reason behind the design of the new service is mainly the distinct setbacks that virtualization poses on hosted cloud-based solutions. It’s not that I’m against virtualization as much as I am against sharing, he says. But if you have a corporate data center and you’re the only user or all the users are from a single company, then there are a lot of advantages to dedicated servers.
