McAfee, a computer security company has just released shocking data regarding hijacking and spamming of computers all over the world. According to the company, there has been an increase of 50 percent in the number of zombie computers as more than 12 million computes have been hijacked in this year alone.
According to McAfee, the largest share of zombie computers exists in the United States where the rate of computer infection is almost 20%. China is next on the list with 13%, while in the UK, 6% of the computers have been infected. The best record in this regard is of Italy where merely 3% of the computes are reported to be hijacked.
McAfee also released information about worldwide spamming activity and the US has topped this lost too as the country is responsible for originating almost 35% of global spam volume. The UK fairs well in this respect, and does not feature in McAfee’s top-ten list of countries producing maximum spam. Deloitte, a renowned accounting and consultancy firm has also argued for better global cyber security. Greg Pellegrino, who works with the company, said that there is a need to move quickly to ensure the security of the public. Pointing to potential dangers of slow action, he said that the situation is getting worse so rapidly that soon it would start showing a significant negative economic impact. Deloitte also emphasized that almost all countries have been affected by the problem and there was a need for coordinated action to tackle it.
