Poker Warfare - Calculated Moves

Playing poker online is a game of calculation, where tactics win battles. The Art of War states, “The general who wins a battle makes many calculations before the battle is fought. The general who loses makes few calculations beforehand. Thus, many calculations lead to victory, and lack of calculations to defeat.”

It profits any poker player or player of casino games to mind this advice and learn basic calculations for figuring the outs and pot odds for every hand played when playing poker online. Outs are the number of cards left in the deck that can complete a winning hand. Pot odds calculate the probability of hitting the hand in relation to how much the pot is worth. Being able to calculate outs and odds is absolutely an essential skill for winning at poker.

In addition to determining outs and odds, players must also consider classic poker tactics, like slow playing a monster hand, bluffing against weak players, and leveraging position at the table. These are also part of the intense calculation that poker players must continually make.

Think before you act. Know the odd you are up against. Determine the best situation for a bluff or check raise. All these calculated tactics must come into your play. Remember and heed Sun Tzu’s advice to generals: “Ponder and deliberate before you make a move.”
